The crackdown is running on longer and not just PokerStars, Full Tilt and the Cereus Poker Network were targets. Maryland indicated that three individuals with two online gambling companies are being indicted on charges of conducting an illegal gambling business and money laundering.

A statement was issued by the DoJ saying Darren Wright and David Parchomchuk of BetEd and Ann Marie Puig of BMX Entertainment are being charged in two separate indictments. 11 bank accounts were seized located in Charlotte, North Carolina, Guam, Panama, Malta, Portugal and the Netherlands as well as ten domain names as part of these indictments. Some domain names are very well known but others not so, here is the complete list:

Bookmaker.com, 2Betsdi.com, Funtimebingo.com. Goldenarchcasino.com, Truepoker.com, Betmaker.com, Betgrandesports.com, Doylesroom.com, Betehorse.com and Beted.com.

The US Attorney for the District of Maryland, the IRS, and the Department of Homeland Security were all involved in building the case against online gaming software company ThrillX (DBA BetEd) and online payment processing company BMX Entertainment.

A sting operation was set up in which the Department of Homeland Security set up a fake payment processing company called Linwood Payment Solutions. That company processed payments as of 2009 to and from online poker sites. The affidavit says that Linwood processed over $33 million in payments over the course of more than 300,000 transactions.

“It is illegal for internet gambling enterprises to do business in Maryland, regardless of where the website operator is located,” said U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein. “We cannot allow foreign website operators to flout the law simply because their headquarters are based outside the country.”

This sworn affidavit from M. Lisa Ward, Special Agent for the Homeland Security Office, has the companies being accused of violating the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), Maryland State law, and federal laws regarding money laundering.

Linwood also did business with Absolute Poker and UB Poker aside from the afore mentioned sites. The Linwood company also signed a series of contracts with online gaming sites represented by K23 Financial Services, aka BMX Entertainment. This included doing business with True Poker as well as DoylesRoom in addition to the afore mentioned sites. The Beted.com contract is separate from Linwood’s business dealings with BMX, which helps explain why it is included in a separate indictment.

BMX Entertainment is owned by Puig and is the only individual named so far. The second indictment naming Wright and Parchomcuk is in relation to alleged illegal operations of Beted.com.

Forfeiture of the bank accounts and domain names are being confiscated the government. As of press time, all but two of the sites named in the case were not accessible within the United States. DoylesRoom and BetEHorse’s sites were still accessible. The site still has his name but Doyle Brunson himself severed the ties earlier this month.

In somewhat related news, the Associated Press reported earlier today that Bradley Franzen, one of the 11 individuals named in the 4/15 indictment against the big three poker sites as well as a number of payment processors, plead guilty to lesser charges in a Manhattan court today in exchange for testimony against some of the other individuals named in the case.

The King of Swing of online poker himself Viktor “Isildur1” Blom was quiet ever since Black Friday and finally he is roaring again as he won $183.000 last night.

A total of 1.576 hands were dished out on PokerStars with the majority of them being against online pro Ben “Sauce123” Sulsky at $50/$100 heads-up Pot-Limit Omaha.
They played over 600 hands versus each other and Blom ended up taking a little over $100.000.
Blom was not satisfied, he never is and went on to play a series of $25/$50 PLO heads-up matches against “adiprene1″ and “gavz101″. At the end of it all he was up a total of $183.000.
Ever since US players have been banned Blom has been laying low but now is again on his trend upwards and onwards.

He was down nearly $400.000 in April and he is now only down $250.000 over the entire year so let us hope he gets fully out of it.
As you are reading this chances are Blom is playing “gavz101″ in a huge session of $50/$100 PLO so it might affect either positively or negatively his total result.

The rest of the players in the top five last night were all on Full Tilt and considerably less well known than Blom. The list included “SanderB12″ ($122.000), LFmagic ($103.000), UarePileous ($86.000), davin77 ($79.000).

Meanwhile, “ZInsenamnn”, who has been red-hot on PokerStars, ended up losing some big $50/$100 sessions to “Sauce123″ and “gavz101″.
“Sauce123″ and “gavz101″ made their session balanced with winning what they lost to “Isildur1″ and “ZInsenamnn” was down a total of $198.000.
ZInsenamnn wasn’t the only player to lose stacks of cash as “O Fortuna PLS” dropped $101.000 and “XWINK” lost $100.000.
“O Fortuna PLS” is rumored to be a German Limit Hold’em specialist and has had a solid 2011 but has been cold the last week. He’s holding on to $603.000 profit in online poker for 2011.
Meanwhile “XWINK” has been doing everything in his power to get back to the high stakes games on Full Tilt but simply hasn’t been able to escape the $25/$50 level. He’s still up about $130.000 this year.

World Series of Poker is a grand event and we like to make bets on it.

Normally we use our vast knowledge and extensive contacts with a healthy dosis of intuition to get a stable of players that we feel have the best chance to get bracelets this summer.

Respect to Jason Mercier, very few of them ever do.

This year we find it was time for change and do things a little different.

We are shooting larger game, meaning we will target groups instead of individuals in the hopes more will go down.

We will start the Best Bets series with the first group, Women.

Poker does not hold true that women are less successful as men or could or should be less.

The only reason men have been winning a lot is the fact that there were more men playing with skill than there were women.

Now 2008 WSOP bracelet winner Vanessa Selbst has something to say about that with her $3.400.000 won in the past 18 months proving tournament poker isn’t just a good old boys club: “I actually think that if you look at any of these major tour events, the women are going to be better than the average player. There are fewer of them, but the ones that are here are doing really well. For such a long time poker has been a man’s game, and it took a while for women to break into that world. Obviously women have the ability to be just as capable at poker as men, and I think it’s just a matter of time until we start to see a lot more women at major final tables.”

Liv Boeree won EPT San Remo in 2010 and believes women like her and Selbst are helping pave the way for a future generation of female poker stars.

“Without question women are getting better. We’re seeing this emergence of particularly young women, who in my opinion are just as good as the best male players out there.
They have a very aggressive style, a very thinking style. People like Lauren Kling and Melanie Weisner, these names that maybe a couple years ago people hadn’t heard of.
I really do hope that established female pros like Vanessa Selbst are part of the reason we’re seeing this happen. But at the same time, the generation of women graduating university right now, really do have a different mindset than women from 20 years ago.
We’re encouraged to do whatever the hell we want. We’re encouraged to compete against and beat the boys in anything.”

Leo Margets was the last woman standing in the 2009 WSOP Main Event.

She is now a serious student of the game despite being relatively new to the game when being the last one standing in that event.

“I’m not even close to the same player, and if you ask me the same question in one year or five years, I hope that the answer will be the same. I have improved a lot and studied the game a lot. I am super aware of the need to always progress. I think playing the major events around the world is like getting a Masters Degree. It can be an expensive education so luckily I have a great sponsor that has paid for it.”

She has her Master Degree now and is ready to buck down and do their homework and are ready, willing and able to get success in the 2011 WSOP events.

“Now there’s more and more women on TV, and you’re seeing women winning majors. I think it is inspiring for other women coming into the game.”

One player was rising above the field this Sunday. Three final tables for Canadian online poker tournament specialist Russell “rdcrsn” Carson. Seventh place in the Sunday Brawl on Full Tilt Poker, following up with a win in the UB $50k GTD for $14.500. He finally had a second place finish which netted him $223.000 in in Full Tilt Poker’s $1.000.000 Guarantee. A deal was made between Carson and the eventual winner “PreshaDroppa” heads-up, earning over $236.000 for the winning effort. Benjamin “delaney_kid” Delaney was the winner of the Sunday Brawl getting $61.556 his career best. The Sunday Mulligan closes the action with “Itan Hunt” cashing in for $21.350.

The second week of PokerStars SCOOP was also underway with a pair of two day No Limit Hold ‘Em Events. The Sunday Million and Sunday Warm-Up were preempted and the Sunday 500 and Sunday Second Chance were continued as scheduled. “itzlingerass” won the Sunday 500 and got just under $50.000 for it. The Sunday Second Chance featured a small overlay as “bennybunny18″ claimed the title, earning over $23.000.

For those that still play at US sites we have the Lock Poker $100.000 Guarantee missed by just $3.500 as “WSGORDONSTR” picks up a $25.000 score. The Bodog $100.000 Guarantee had another overlay of 5 figures and “uhaveseenmee” noticed a $25.000 increase in their bankroll.

Ali Tekintamgac was the headline for the world known $25,000 buy-in World Poker Tour Championship instead of the larger than expected field.

The seat for him was because he won the WPT Spanish Championship. He made headlines before when the organizers of the Partouche Poker Tour Main Event found out he used bloggers and media personnel to find out opponents’ hole cards.

People were shocked and appalled and outraged alongside being stunned and surprised to fin out a major cheat is playing a major tournament. Some players took to Twitter to voice their disgust and look for answers from WPT executives.

Vanessa Selbst, who made the Partouche Poker Tour final table with Tekintamgac, wasn’t playing the WPT Championship but still wanted answers as to why the player was allowed to register.

“is Ali Tekimtamgac really playing this tournament? @SavagePoker why was he even allowed to register???,” she asked WPT Executive Tournament Director Matt Savage. As of Midnight PT there was no response from Savage on his Twitter account.

The most vocal player about the matter was Daniel Negreanu who actually confronted Tekintamgac at the table before being warned by Bellagio security. Via his @RealKidPoker account Negreanu sent out three consecutive tweets about Tekintamgac.

“Ali Tekimtamgac who was caught cheating in Partouche is in #WPTChamp I called him out, and floor told ME I can’t do that! When will we learn”

“Bellagio/WPT should absolutely not allow this person in the event. He was caught red handed cheating and should be banned. This is absurd.”

“The cheater just threatened Scott Siever the floor was alerted and won’t do anything about it. Physical threat, he should call the cops.”

Seiver was seated at a table with Tekintamgac to start the day and was allegedly the first person to say something to him about his checkered past.

The Partouche Poker Tour disqualification came after other players in Europe had hinted that members of the media were being used in a similar fashion at an EPT stop in Estonia. In that event Tekintamgac finished 36th. For his part Tekintamgac denies the allegations and has apparently sought counsel to countersue the PPT.

Tekintamgac made it through Day 2 of the WPT Championship with a near average stack. He may be in for another tough ride with Cliff “JonnyBax” Josephy, Phil Hellmuth, Jon “PearlJammer” Turner and Mike Sexton.

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) hosted its annual conference call Wednesday to announce the changes being made to the upcoming series in Las Vegas. On the call were WSOP Communications Director Seth Palansky, WSOP Tournament Director Jack Effel and WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart, who were eager to announce that the final table action of 55 gold bracelet events will be aired live via the Internet throughout the series, which kicks off on Tuesday, May 31.

The coverage, which will be on a five-minute delay due to gaming regulations, will be aired on WSOP.com and sponsored by Jack Link’s Beef Jerky. A wide overhead shot of the entire final table and its participants along with a flop camera will provide the visual sightlines, while audio from the event’s tournament announcer will describe the betting action as it occurs.

This marks the first time in the history of the WSOP that all 58 gold bracelet events will receive some sort of video coverage. ESPN3 will be streaming segments of the $25K Heads Up event, the $50K Poker Players Championship and the Main Event.

While the delayed coverage won’t provide any hole cards or live commentary, it will offer viewers a real-time experience much like on-site spectators would experience. Poker enthusiasts will be able to catch all of the biggest moments from the year’s most prestigious series that they may have missed in past years — one example being Tom “durrrr” Dwan’s run at a bracelet last year that created a huge buzz in the community.

“We are proud to provide video of the culminating action to a worldwide audience in real time,” said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart. “This online initiative will complement our spectacular television package on ESPN and deliver even more of this year’s WSOP to fans who want the most immediate coverage possible.”

The WSOP announced Wednesday that it renewed its sponsorship agreements with Jack’s Links and Miller Brewing Company, and added a slew of new sponsors, including On Tilt, Blue Shark Optics, audio company Klipsch, and Dearform Slippers. Miller will shift its branding focus from Milwaukee’s Best to the more popular Miller Lite, and all players participating in the Main Event and Ladies Event will receive a pair of slippers as part of the Dearform sponsorship.

The conference call also brought news regarding changes to the Hall of Fame voting. The WSOP has implemented the “Chip Reese Rule,” which will prevent players under the age of 40 from reaching the Hall of Fame (Reese was the youngest inductee at the age of 40 in 1991). The voting process has also been modified; nominations will still be open to the public but a panel of industry experts will serve as a selection committee to help determine the finalists that will be handed to the current Hall of Famers for a final vote.

Changes have also been made to the WSOP Player of the Year structure. The point system, which was harshly criticized by many in the past, will be adjusted to be based on the number of players and size of the buy-in. The WSOP will unveil the new system before the series kicks off. The conference call panel also stated that each of the seven bracelet events at the WSOP Europe will count toward the Player of the Year race.

Among the several other changes made to the 2011 WSOP include automatic shufflers added to every final table, new phone charging stations and free wireless internet in the hallways of the Rio Convention Center, and more satellites for players to qualify for WSOP events starting as low as $75 on site. Qualifiers will also be available at the Caesars system of cardrooms across the country.

Some big changes and new features are in store for this year’s World Series of Poker. You will have to wait a fortnight and some to see the action get underway at the Rio.

The highlights are listed below including Player of the Year and Hall of Fame changes and why your feet will be nice and cozy if you take a shot in a WSOP event:

Every Bracelet Event will get Live Streaming

There will be more than 125 hours of WSOP coverage on ESPN and in addition to that WSOP.com will also be providing poker content streamed to you. Every final table not streamed by ESPN will be hosted there and the set up will include two cameras, one overhead and one recording the flop. The tournament director will be miced to listen to as well.

Too bad there will be no commentary at the final tables and no hole card cams. There will be a five minute delay of the streaming. Jack’s Links Beef Jerky will serve as presenting sponsor for the content.

Sponsors Deluxe

Jack’s Links is back and the WSOP is renewing its contract with the Miller Brewing Company, specifically Miller Lite. The WSOP branding will even be featured on pint cans of Miller Lite. Other sponsorship deals on tap for this WSOP include WSOP bracelet provider On Tilt, Blue Shark Optics, audio company Klipsch, and what might be the first slipper sponsor in professional sporting events, Dearform Slippers. The slipper sponsorship means free slippers for participants in the WSOP Main Event and the WSOP Ladies Event.

The WSOP also inked a deal with Shuffle Master to include automatic shufflers at the final tables to speed up action.

Hall of Fame changes

The big news here is the implementation of what is known now as the “Chip Reese Rule”. Reese is the youngest inductee in the Poker Hall of Fame at 40 years-old. In honor of Reese and facing criticism that young players like Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan were included on past Hall of Fame ballots, the Hall of Fame is implementing the rule that players must be at least 40 years old in order to be nominated.

The nominating process will have an industry panel of players and media alike that select the candidates and supplement that with public nomination process.

Player of the Year changes

Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi did not win the Player of the Year honors in spite of winning the $50,000 Poker Players Championship and final tabling the WSOP Main Event. This has caused people to call the system flawed, so there is a new system and although not fully revealed yet it will be tiered points system based.

Some debate will arise because WSOPE is included in the Player of the Year Race. Caesars announced earlier this week that there will be seven bracelet events on the WSOPE schedule.

Convention Center changes

The layout of the Rio Convention Center will remain the same, with tournament action in the Amazon and Pavillion Rooms, cash game action in the Pavilion Room, the Poker Kitchen in the Miranda Ballroom area, and registration in the same area as 2010.

The new features of the site include phone charging stations, free wireless internet in the hallways, and the introduction of six-handed cash game tables where the Rio can spread short-handed action or games like Chinese Poker.

Non-Bracelet action extravaganza

More non-bracelet action with a number of satellites with buy-ins starting as low as $75. The Daily Deepstack events are back as well and there is a chance to get even more action in these events, as the Mega Satellite and Daily Deepstack events will allow re-entry during the late registration period, which lasts for the first four levels of play.

Full Tilt Poker converted tournament tickets to cash and deposited the payments from the Take Two promotion. Absolute Poker and UB Poker made their own announcement Tuesday they have reached an agreement with the US Attorney’s office in the Southern District of New York. According to the agreement, the US Attorney’s office has agreed to provide assurances that third parties may work with Absolute Poker the return of US player’s funds.

Absolute Poker has stopped their US based operations and stopped US players from playing for real money. The domain names absolutepoker.com, ub.com and ultimatebet.com will not be returned. This comes after the May 9 announcement that their lineup of sponsored players, including Joe Sebok, had been dismissed.

Top priority of the company is to return the money to US players but they are still facing legal issues before the funds can be paid. Blank Rome LLP, the site’s attorneys in the US will work to resolve the issues. However, the funds will not immediately become available for withdrawal as a result of today’s agreement.

A Company spokesman said: “Today’s signing of the agreement with the DOJ is an important step towards the safe and efficient return of funds to our US players. We can now move as expeditiously as possible to collect player monies as a prelude to establishing proper mechanisms for the return of funds to our US players. As previously announced, we have already taken specific actions to exit the US market by closing our US-facing operations. Blank Rome LLP will continue to engage in discussions with the SDNY in order to complete the necessary agreements for the final transfer of frozen fund balances to our US players. This remains our highest priority. We will continue to update our players and the poker community, as we move forward to resolve outstanding issues.”

T-minus three weeks and counting and we will see the World Series of Poker start. The news now is not for this but for the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE). Here we will present the scheduly of this event in the fall.

It will move from London to Casino Barrière in Cannes and will get bigger. Seven bracelets will be dished out and a non-bracelet Ladies Event. Last year we saw 5 WSOPE bracelets. €1,620 buy-in Six-handed Pot Limit Omaha and an unique €10,400 buy-in Split Hold’em Event will be the additions. The Split event will play Day 1 at nine-handed tables, Day 2 at six-handed tables, Day 3 will be heads-up action and Day 4 will feature a heads-up final table. The event is being termed the All-Around Hold’em Championship.

“Our new venue in Cannes along with our new partnership with Barrière Poker will offer the best player experience we have ever had for WSOP Europe,” said WSOP vice president Ty Stewart. “Players will find non-stop action throughout the two-week event, plus plenty of fun distractions in Cannes to make this the perfect poker vacation.”
